A native of France, Lise de la Salle performed her first public concert there at age nine, establishing herself not only as a technical virtuoso, but as a young player with an intensity of feeling well beyond her years. “[S]he is always intent on seeking out the poetry beneath the teeming surfaces,” writes the Guardian UK. “Everything about de la Salle’s playing is astonishingly mature.” Now just twenty, the world-renowned soloist comes to Duke to showcase the “depth” and “virtuosity” of her playing (New York Times) in a program of Mozart, Liszt, and Prokofiev that moves between a precise introspection and upsurging physicality. Says Gramophone: “Music is, quite simply, her world; she moves within its realm as naturally as a fish swims or a bird flies.”
