FRED HERSCH & CHRISTOPHER O'RILEY

Heard Fresh: Music for Two Pianos

Friday 11/21 /08, 8 pm
Page Auditorium

$34 • $26 • $20 • $5*

In this special double recital, two of the most inventive voices in piano today appear on the same stage together, playing a program they have devised to highlight the range and variety of the classical piano tradition now.

Fred Hersch is among the most accomplished pianists in the world: a specialist in jazz, his artistry runs beyond the confines of that or any other genre — reaching, critics say, to the very core of what animates fine music. At Duke, this down-to-earth “master” (New York Times) is joined by another outstanding talent, Christopher O’Riley. A host of NPR’s From the Top and top-tier concert performer, O’Riley has introduced new audiences to the enriching power of the classical tradition, earning renown not just as a performer of Rachmaninoff and Stravinsky, but also for his transcriptions and performance of Radiohead.

As two superlative pianists play together on new Steinway “D” Pianos purchased by Duke this year, Page Auditorium promises to ring with intricate, multilayered piano lines. This program is part of Duke Performances’ Piano Recital Series.
